Original Poem: A Soldier's Plea

A Soldier's Plea

Ready to stand and ready to fight,

Willing to endure the fearsome night,

Shaken though he must surely be,

A soldier finds strength on his knees.

In the face of heavy fire,

Crawling through muck and mire,

He struggles to keep his whit's about him,

Knowing each moment could be the end.

He remembers the widow's mite,

And how she gave all she had,

He recalls all the stories of the Bible,

How God's soldiers won midst test and trial.

On reverent and bended knee,

He prays for God to give him strength,

Decades later, now old and frail,

He prays once more,

God save this country from Hell!
